Thriller Opening

Blog Tasks - Planning and Research

You should ensure that your blog has varied and thorough posts that include images or videos that reflect your research and ideas. Here are some ideas that you should ensure are included in your blog.

  1. Your prelininary task.
  2. A commentary on your preliminary task.
  3. What are the conventions of thrillers?
  4. Initial ideas.
  5. Treatment.
  6. Institutional analysis: where might your film appear.
  7. Analysis of thrillers. What kinds of thriller are there? How are the openings structured? How are the characters introduced? What enigmas are thrown up in the first five or so minutes? How do the titles and music integrate into the narrative and themes? How are social groups represented in the opening five minutes?
  8. Auteur Theory - theory and research on one thriller director.
  9. Script, timeline, storyboards, shotlists - upload images to the blog with an explanation of what they are and how they will help you.
  10. Mise-en-scene. Research on your genre and plans for your own ideas.
  11. Analysis of past students work - analyse using the marking criteria.
  12. Location report - street map images or still photo images, information about the location and why it is suitable.
  13. Target audience report - you could do a mind-map or a questionnaire. (A minimum of 50 respondents) Who sees most thrillers?
  14. Editing techniques - find examples of similar editing styles or transitions that you plan to use.
  15. Amateur v professional - analyse the differences between a student and a professional film.
  16. Test Footage - experiment with different shot types and editing techniques and post these to the blog.
  17. What technology have you used on the project? How was it helpful? Did you become proficient in its use?
This is a minimum requirement. You should use your imagination to create other posts.
